On 27th February 2026, the Isuzu East Africa Foundation celebrated a milestone in community-driven development with the official handover of the Kiwalwa Water Reticulation Project in Taita Taveta County.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The initiative extends clean water from the Kiwalwa Secondary School borehole to surrounding households and key community facilities, transforming lives while supporting environmental sustainability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Kshs 3.7 million project addresses a longstanding challenge: while the school had reliable water, neighbouring households and public facilities lacked access to piped water, limiting livelihoods and constraining environmental initiatives. The new reticulation system now connects 139 households, the local dispensary, which provides critical maternal and child healthcare and the community social hall, which will host a tree nursery supporting a mass tree planting initiative in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Within just two months, over 65% of households in the immediate vicinity are already benefiting from direct water supply, a measurable milestone that demonstrates the project\u2019s immediate and tangible impact on livelihoods and climate resilience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the handover ceremony, Isuzu EA Foundation Board Chair Madam Rita Kavashe, underscored the project\u2019s broader significance. “Sustainable development requires deliberate action that transforms community resources into lasting impact,” she said. “By extending water access beyond institutions into households and community spaces, we are strengthening resilience, supporting environmental restoration, and reinforcing inclusive growth. I urge the community to embrace this opportunity, to use this water to transform their farms and gardens into thriving green spaces, cultivate trees that restore the land, and create economic opportunities for themselves and future generations.”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The impact is already evident. At the local dispensary, access to clean water has improved hygiene and enhanced maternal and child health services. The Clinical Officer from the village dispensary shared. “Water is essential in everything we do. Having it readily available has improved how we care for mothers and children. It has strengthened the quality of our services.”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

For households, the transformation touches daily life and livelihoods. Mama Asha Jumamosi, a rice farmer and one of the women representatives from the village, expressed how the project has reshaped her farming: \u201cThis water has transformed my farming. I can now grow healthy rice seedlings and have started cultivating fruit trees like oranges, lemons and coconuts. Before, we spent hours fetching water. Now, we can plan our days, focus on farming, and provide better for our families. Life has changed for the better.”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beyond household benefits, the water reticulation system is critical for environmental conservation. The community social hall will serve as a hub for a tree nursery, supporting biodiversity, climate resilience, and sustainable land management. Youth groups involved in raising seedlings are already seeing the potential for income generation and environmental stewardship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“With access to water, we can grow seedlings, generate income, and protect our environment. It has given us purpose and hope<\/em>,” said Ferdinand Chikira, the youth group Resource Mobilizer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Kiwalwa Water Reticulation Project exemplifies the Isuzu EA Foundation\u2019s commitment to its core pillars: People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace, and Partnerships. By enabling sustainable water access, the Foundation promotes inclusive growth, environmental restoration, and long-term community empowerment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
